Project overview: Hvítisandur is a development project for constructing environmentally friendly sea baths and a restaurant on the shell beach of Önundarfjörður, close to major urban areas.
Architectural harmony: Designed by Sen&Son architects to blend into the landscape, mimicking the dune grass waves on a light shell sand beach, with all design and material choices inspired by the unique nature of the Westfjords.
Engineering solutions: EFLA engineering firm has developed a solution utilizing thermal energy from the sea and hydroelectric power to heat a large pool, hot tubs, steam baths, and showers.
Capacity: Planned to accommodate 160 guests at the sea baths and seating for 50 people in the restaurant. The sea baths will be open from May to September.
Project cost: The estimated total cost of the project is 1.5 billion ISK. The lessee and developer is the private limited company Blævængur ehf.

Amenities: Proposed 62 rooms, a restaurant, and a bar, with services not only for hotel guests but also for the wider community.

Historical Renovation: Transformation of old Bíldudal buildings into a 48-room hotel with event facilities for 80-100 people, complete with a kitchen and bar.
Historic Buildings: The project involves:
- Bull's House, originally rebuilt in Bíldudal in 1900, originally from a Norwegian whaling station in Ísafjarðardjúp.
- Peter Thorsteinsson's trade and residential building from 1884.
- Maron hf's trade house, constructed by entrepreneur and MP Gísli Jónsson in 1948.
Integrated Townscape: The buildings will adjoin a planned wooden pier at the harbor, aiming to create a cohesive town image with other period buildings, forming an attractive historical downtown for tourists.

From Fishing to Aquaculture and Tourism

Transformation: Tálknafjörður has evolved from a traditional fishing village into a hub for aquaculture and tourism, leveraging its geothermal resources to support on-land aquaculture development and attract tourism.
Development potential: Opportunities in Tálknafjörður include expanding tourism and port-related activities, with plans for a harbor area extension.
New zoning plan: The new plan allows for a hotel with a 1,500 m² foundation, designed to meet investors' needs.
Harbor access and expansion: Anticipated new access to the harbor area requires some land reclamation, creating two new plots (nos. 19 and 21 in the detailed plan) suitable for two-story commercial buildings with a ridge roof and a maximum wall height of 8.5 meters.
